Frequently Asked Questions
Feel free to contact us with any questions you have that aren’t listed here!
Why rats?
Rats are sweet, loving, intelligent animals that are enjoyable to care for. They learn their names and can be litter trained and love to learn tricks. I personally find them to be very fulfilling pets that are medium in difficulty of care. Of the “Pocket Pets”, I believe rats to be the easiest.
Do you sell feeders?
No. We re a Pet-Only breeder and do not breed or sell feeder rats.
Where are you located?
We are located between Albany, Oregon and Eugene, Oregon.
How much are your rats?
I price by pairs and trios and go up from there based on the adopter.
Pair of Rats: $75
Trio of Rats: $110
Rats with breeding rights: $100 per rat
*I no longer adopt out pairs of rats to new owners. I only will adopt pairs out to people who already have an established mischief.
These prices are not set in stone. I often work with people and also offer used cages for sale alongside rats. Please reach out with any questions about availability, your situation, and if you want to buy a used cage.
Are rats a good first pet?
In my opinion? No. While I strongly avoid comparing them, rats are very similar to dogs in the amount of attention they need. Rats are social animals and will want to bond with you. They need daily attention and need access to food and water at all times. They are extremely intelligent, which while fulfilling and delightful in many ways, can make an extra challenge for new pet owners. They have arms and little hands, they are naturally destructive, and need regular cleaning. They are by far the most enjoyable “Pocket Pet” in my opinion, but I think that type of pet is harder to care for than dogs or cats. If your child is not ready for a cat or dog, they are likely not ready for rats either. For first pets for children, I highly suggest invertebrates like jumping spiders, isopods, millipedes, or some tarantulas.
